So, in preparartion for the green tide I had the idea that Tugark would have sent off all his liquid assets to a bank/banking clan/whatever they are in Forgotten Realms terms back in Faerun, along with certain last will instructions. Thought I had not discussed this at all with any DM...
With that in mind, would the concept of a bank branch in New Daring be an idea? Save us from buying more and more chests to hold all those gold pieces, or trying to trade them for gems and jewellery.
I know encumbrance hand money management hasn't really been a focus for the games, but I thought this could be a nice touch.

Maybe offering a way to invest loot/startup loans for adventurers who want to open a business?

A mercenary company isn't usually considered a sound investment or safe business venture, Varis... 😝

I mean, Acquisitions Incorporated was founded on very similar principles.
I think a bank isn't out of the question. Typically I think local guilds or merchant houses will provide banking services to those who request it.
There are several places where you could essentially use a merchant house's vault. If we wanted to say that there was a dedicated bank though... I think that could happen. It would be interesting if it is an establishment that then invests in Daring Heights and beyond...

If you need any player input in running/RPing/book keeping I’m happy to chip in.

Banks aren’t open on (Lady) Sundays.
That’s my helpful contribution.

I very much like this idea, especially as it may help new adventurers looking to start a business get the requisite starting capital, which should be easily repayable later on, given loot haulage. I have expansive plans for Menace in terms of PF businesses, but since a bank should be a trusted institution (and who would trust his savings to a rogue tiefling?), maybe this one should be DM/NPC run, so as to avoid any shenanigans? A gold dwarven merchant banking clan from Faerun setting up a branch office in DH/PF would be quite fitting!

The original idea was for a safe place to store our ridiculous amounts of liquid assets. If it took Tugark 2 years to buy half a sailing ship without a bank you can bet your backside that if there's a bank it ain't doing loans.

I don't follow, why would that bank not offer loans?
Alternatively, if the desire is just for a safe place to store money, as in, a vault full of deposit boxes, than why not just integrate this with the Kantas Trading Company and be done with it (sorry, forgot the proper name, that company run by a halfling woman).
Personally, I think DH and PF need more business ventures, workshops and industry! And for those you need finance.

OMTC is i think the one your thinking of, I guess Heret would know if they would want to get involved in Banking though Jamie JLoans might be an interesting thing to explore though..... High interest rates ofc. Adventuring is a Risky business and they need to make sure they get their investment back!

The Olem-Murnelvar Trading Company is a wholesale import-export company operating between Daring Heights and Crimmor in Amn. It doesn't store other people's money, but if anyone wants to invest in Company shares, that might be open for discussion.

To be fair to you Ian (Menace), this was Varis/G'Lorth/Sundilar's first comment, so it's not an unusual request. I offer you a response, and a justification from a DM point-of-view: Why wouldn't a bank offer loans (to PCs)? Adventurers are too risky an investment (as Markas Virnala said). They could turn up dead or missing and never pay back the loan. D&D is about journey and reward, not the instant gratification of a credit line (See Tugark taking 2 years to buy half a boat, might have been a whole boat if I played more and DMed less).
