A note in clipped, military handwriting is pinned to the board in the Ettin:
The Orc tribes gather in the mountains to the north west, aided by the Xvarts and led by a warchief called Shammog Skinflayer. They seek to destroy Daring and put it's citizens to the sword. I call on those willing to aid me in preparing for this threat. Raiding their supplies, sowing disunity, assassinating their leaders - all this and more we must acomplish if we are to survive the coming storm. The Xvarts, too, must be dealt with. Now is not the time for caution and diplomacy. War is upon us, and only with blood and iron will the people of Daring survive it's wracks.
Varis
Underneath, someone has scrawled in flowing red letters:
Very flowery for a paladin - perhaps leave the poetry to we true artists, hmm? Stick to hitting things.

A small note is pinned underneath it in a familiar flourished calligraphy.
I've already seen the power of the ones leading the Xvarts. I am willing to aid you in this task. Let us start where we can, if we take the Xvart's out of the equation we will be able to start digging at their forces. I believe we took out the one called Xvood, let us investigate about the Xvad and the Xvugly and dispose of them.

"These orcs ride wargs and giant bats, and are accompanied by large Orogs as well as cunning and spellcrafty Xvart ... I have seen them alongside the Paladin ... it will take all the strength of Daring to defend against the coming onslaught. I wish to see this enemy vanquished as long as there are no options to parley for peace or to split their forces and reduce their number ..."

yet another note appears beneath those present, it seems all the adventurers keep missing each other, it's almost as if they were all out of town...
"There are around us great and ancient cities where we have friends, I Dvärgar Caveforged, have contacts in the Dwarven Stronghold to the South and in the Kobold City Kundar the influential Gearturners once promised me help if I ever needed it, perhaps we could turn to them for help and perhaps even reinforcement? The Kundarians employ Dragonborns as their guards and have made great advancements in magic and engineering..."

What of Aza? We have had reasonably good rapport with at least part of the orc warband in the past while dealing with the Twilight. And what of the Orcs in Kundar, do they have anything to do with this warband?

She now considers her debt to Daring Heights adventurers repaid and will henceforth treat us as enemies."

A shame. Our blades shall meet as enemies, then.

Maybe Ugrum knows of this band of Orcs?

Maybe Ugrum knows of this band of Orcs? "Aza did not speak of a band - that we could handle with a few of us, by thunder! No, she spoke of a gathering of orc tribes, an army numbered in their many thousands supported by hundreds of Xvart and the Mother knows what else... "But the Xvart rogue we captured for questioning also said the orcs are seeking something at Daring Heights, and this is why they will attack us. They are attacking to obtain some thing they wish to recover or destroy. We questioned it but it would not say what it was, claiming ignorance. It was not prepared to tell or, more likely, did not know. "The orcs are coming to Daring. They have an army in their thousands. They have Xvart, orogs (bigger uglier orcs, if that's possible), wargs and giant bats in support. They are coming because there is something here they want either to destroy or to recover and it is in honour of their god Grumsch. I know not what it is, but it is the reason for their coming."

"Without knowing more, I suggest they're after access to Faerun.
If this is true, we should venture forth and shut down Ambar's portal as well. His will not be a trivial task, as he had Red Wizards under his employ last we met, and he is an unscrupulous, amoral being."
Of course, Tugark isn't a strategist or known to even plan ahead, having never played a game of dragon chess he didn't lose poorly...

Tugark returns to the Ettin after spending the morning outside of Daring Heights. He checks in with Coll about Carrot, who is stood on a stool washing dishes in the back merrily humming away. Tugark then turns to Varis.
"Tell me more of these Xvarts. You've brought one down, the one with the staff that has been haggled over?" "What of the other Xvart leaders?"

“Yes, the Xvart we captured named his leaders as Xvud, a magic wielder who we slew in the Yuan Ti temple, and whose staff Nowhere claimed for himself. He also mentioned Xvad, a great warrior, and Xvugly, their clan’s spiritual leader. Beyond these simple descriptions I cannot tell you much, save that the demon Pascal was in sole way involved, and that the magic these creatures control is far beyond what I would expect of them. Ax, our Xvart captive, spoke of Xvud using great power to raise his people up.”
