Urgent warning...
Investigations into the abandoned camp due west of DH lead our party to discover a significant outpost in the woods due north from there garrisoned by a group of experienced and ruthless mercenaries. We swiftly neutralised this group (with some assistance from a couple of halflings eager to defect to us) and took one prisoner.
This outpost has been in place for over a year and, more importantly, we have discovered that:
1) there is another portal somewhere in that area which moves every week or so; and
2) a Wizard and other probably dangerous individuals "manage" the portal and use it to travel between Kantas and the old continent.
We also discovered that the abandoned camp was not attacked by wild animals - individuals within that original party (including the now dead female mercenary leader we encountered) took part in the attack or battle.
The Tiefling fighter we took prisoner is now in custody.
Be aware - no unarmed parties and certainly no individuals should venture into that area.
